SUNBURN As the summer approaches it is essential that we all take precautions to prevent over exposure and burning. I know we have not seen much sun but too much too soon puts us at serious risk both of immediate problems and long term harm. There is overwhelming evidence that the more episodes of sunburn we have the more our risk of developing skin cancer, the worst of which is melanoma and is potentially fatal. A few simple precautions protect us: 1. Do not expose the skin between 11.00 a.m. and 3.00 p.m. when the ultra violet rays are at maximum strength; 2. Adequate and frequently applied sun protection cream whatever the factor; 3. Avoid burning at all costs; 4. Wear a hat; facial skin is sensitive and vulnerable – sun damage ages skin more rapidly.
These simple precautions will help us all have a more enjoyable summer. |
